Recently I have gotten obsessed with watching Asian Dramas. My first introduction into Asian dramas was 'Love020' and since then (within about 3 months) I have managed to finish several dramas. Because I want to share my love for this new found genre I have decided to dedicate this specific page to my favourite Asian dramas. Look here for recommendations, and follow my mydramalist to see what I'm currently watching.
1. Descendants of the sun (2016) (9,5/10)
South Korea
This story tells of doctors stationed in the fictional war zone of Urk (Uruk), and follows the love story that develops between a surgeon, Kang Mo Yeon' and a special forces officer, Yoo Shi Jin, both elite in their respective fields. The story will track both their personal and professional struggles while exploring issues about the value of life.
My reasoning: It made me cry. I'm talking UGLY CRY! I'm talking sobbing (serious sobbing) and muting my loud sobs to make sure I wouldn't wake up my boyfriend and having to explain the sad scenes. I'm pretty sure he would laugh at me, after first recovering from a heart attack thinking something terrible had happened to me.
Another reason why I loved watching this was the humour that is interwoven into the show. Jokes were well delivered and the actors had perfect timing. It also doesn't hurt that this is a story about soldiers and that we have plenty of scenes with soldiers running around on hot summer days LOL.
This drama is romantic, humorous and loving.
2. Love020 (2017) (9,5/10)
China
Xiao Nai is a gaming expert who, courtesy of his basketball skills, academic excellence, swimming talent and game company presidency, also happens to be the most popular student on campus. When he first comes across the gorgeous computer science major Bei Wei Wei, the infinitely talented wunderkind immediately falls in love. But it’s not Bei’s looks that he notices; it’s the ridiculous mastery with which she is commanding her guild and owning everyone in an online multiplayer game that makes her impossible to forget. Now, Xiao Nai must use his skills both in real life and online to capture the adorable but dorky Bei’s heart. But does their love have the XP to succeed, or will this relationship never level up?
My reasoning: This was the first Asian drama I watched. I found it after watching a scene and reading a description. I am very happy I took the plunge because it was amazing. Since I've become a (casual) gamer myself I loved the premise of people meeting because of a game. The actors are pretty (the leads are seriously pretty!!) and their acting is lovely. I got butterflies when they smiled at one another. This show made me seriously happy for these characters.
Note: I have also watched the movie version, but only after having finished this series twice. I like 'm both but because the series is so much longer and has more humor I have to pick that one as a favourite.
..... More coming
